My Bio

Welcome to my website!  I'm Rachel Norman, the owner and designer of Tai Knots Jewellery. My company started way back in 2000, when I did what a lot of young University grads do; I moved to Asia to teach English. Luckily, I learned how to make jewellery while in Taiwan. Here I am, 14 years later designing jewellery that I sell to stores across Canada, and to all of you wonderful online shoppers. I produce exotic jewellery, which creatively combines the art of Chinese knotting with semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals. I got married in 2012 to a wonderful man, and since then I've also been making wedding jewellery with sterling silver, freshwater pearl, and Swarovski crystal.

I'm self-taught, and I learned knotting by looking at Chinese instructional books on jewellery making. I guess I've always been a visual learner, so the colourful pictures made it easy. While living in Taiwan from 2000 to 2002, I found my inspiration in the markets and local shops where I stumbled upon striking pieces of Asian jewellery crafted by knotting soft nylon fiber and semi-precious stones.

The concept appealed to me, both artistically and from a health perspective. In the past I've experienced skin irritation from metal jewellery; finally, gorgeous pieces made without gold or silver.  Making and wearing hypoallergenic jewellery became a passion since I know so many others have the same challenge with finding metal-free jewellery.

I'm based in North Bay, Ontario, Canada and I launched my company Tai Knots Jewellery in 2002, featuring exotic styles of beaded necklaces, bracelets and earrings. I love to express myself through jewellery. It's exciting to combine the energies and associations of different stones to create beauty and meaning.  Each piece comes with a tag that lists the stones that are included in it which is perfect for gifts.

My jewellery not only enhances appearance, but exudes warmth and positive energy that is felt, but hard to explain. I'm incredibly motivated: not only by my ability to create beauty but also by how my jewellery positively enhances people's energies and lives.  Tai Knots is made with joy and laughter, and I hope it brings you the same.
